Due on receipt, Net 15 and Net 30: check your invoice terms
Payment terms tell your customer when payment is expected. Compare common terms, calculate a due date and check that the date on your English invoice matches your agreement.
What each term communicates
- Due on receipt / Due upon receipt
- Payment is due when the invoice is received. Use this when it matches your agreement.
- Net 15
- Payment within 15 days of the agreed starting date.
- Net 30
- Payment within 30 days of the agreed starting date.
- Balance due on completion
- The remaining balance is due when the work is completed.
Net 15 and Net 30 usually start from the invoice date. If your agreement starts from receipt or uses another rule, state that clearly and use the same starting point in your calculation.
FROM TERMS TO A DATE
Calculate the due date.
Choose the starting date agreed with your customer. This tool counts calendar days, including weekends and holidays.
Calculated due date
For Due on receipt, the starting date should be the day the invoice is received. If your agreement uses business days or another starting point, check that separately. In Invoicista, review the document date before sharing it.

One painting job, two possible terms
Fictional example: the payment period starts on October 23, 2026. This calculation uses calendar days without moving a weekend due date to a business day.
| Terms | Period | Due date |
|---|---|---|
| Net 15 | 15 days | November 7, 2026 |
| Net 30 | 30 days | November 22, 2026 |
Terms, date and balance are separate details
- Payment terms
- The payment rule, such as Net 15.
- Due date
- The specific date payment is due, such as November 7, 2026.
- Balance due
- The amount still outstanding.
- Past due / Overdue
- The due date has passed and a balance is still outstanding.
- Paid in full
- The full payment has been received.
If the job costs $500 and you have received $150, the balance is $350. Writing Net 15 does not record that payment or change the balance by itself.
Check before sharing
- Compare the payment terms with your agreement with the customer.
- In the Invoicista editor, check the due date separately. Changing the terms text does not confirm that the date is correct.
- Open the PDF and check the terms, date and balance. If the agreement changed, send the updated version.
